The Norwegian’s 53rd minute header against Paris Saint-Germain was his 37th goal for us in the competition, surpassing Sergio Aguero on 36 in the tournament proper.
Aguero also netted a hat-trick in a qualifier against Steaua Bucharest in 2016 that is discounted from this figure.
Haaland then extended his record later on, rolling the ball home in 75th minute of the thrilling clash with the French champions.
Haaland’s latest achievement comes in just his 41st Champions League appearance for City since joining the club in the summer of 2022.
In total, he’s netted 61 goals in 60 appearances in Europe’s elite club competition, having scored eight times for RB Salzburg and on 15 occasions for Borussia Dortmund.
Haaland is already the third top scorer in our 132-year history and now has 172 goals in 207 games for City.
Only six men have ever netted more in the entire lifespan of the European Cup, while no player in the top 50 comes anywhere close to his ratio of more than a goal per game.
He claimed the tournament’s Golden Boot in his debut campaign in Manchester, scoring 12 times as City lifted the trophy following a historic 1-0 defeat of Inter in Istanbul.
On that run, he became just the third player to score five goals in one Champions League game with a star turn in the Round of 16 against RB Leipzig – joining Lionel Messi and Luiz Adriano to the feat.
Six goals in nine came in the following season as City reached the quarter-finals before a painful penalty shootout defeat to Real Madrid.
He backed that up with a further eight goals in each of the last two campaigns and the 26-year-old has started this campaign in fine form, with three goals in his first two games including this finish against the current holders.
He now has 10 goals in nine appearances across all competitions at the start of the 2026/27 season as he goes in search of yet more accolades.
Congratulations to Erling on continuing to write history with City.
