Erling Haaland says City are looking to channel the exact same mentality that brought us a historic Treble last term as the Norwegian targets another season for the ages.

The striker enjoyed what was an era-defining first season at the Etihad.

As well as claiming a record-breaking 52 goals alongside a clutch of prestigious individual awards, Haaland also proved one of the pivotal ingredients in City’s incredible march to the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.

Ahead of Sunday’s huge Premier League trip to Arsenal, Haaland – and City – have made a fine fist of things so far this term, winning six out of seven games in the league to top the table with Erling having claimed eight goals to date.

But asked what his own motivation and goals were for rest of the 2023/24 campaign, Haaland was unequivocal in his response.

“To win the treble is motivation in itself,” Haaland declared.

“We just have to have the same mentality as we had at the start of last season.

“We know it’s going to be more difficult because people want to beat us more.

“We have to try and build every single week and when we come to April we have to be there.

“We have to try to fight for all the trophies and we will see in the end who is the best team and who has the most points.”

The Norwegian striker also spoke about his rapport and understanding with Jack Grealish.

The duo dovetailed to great effect last season along the way to City claiming the Treble and have also become firm friends off the field.

For his part, Haaland revealed how a shared sense of fun and enjoyment had helped cement their Blue bond.

“We are different, but some things are the same too,” Erling added.

“We love to have fun; we love to have a joke and have a laugh a bit.

“We just want to smile, enjoy, relax and play good football together.

“He’s also a kind person.”
