The record had previously been shared by Ruud van Nistelrooy (2002/03) and Mohamed Salah (2017/18).

Goals per game
Interestingly, both van Nistelrooy and Salah shared identical records at the end of their impressive individual campaigns, with their 44 strikes in all competitions coming in 52 appearances.
In short, the duo found the net at a rate of just under 0.85 per match across their respective campaigns, with both hitting double figures in the Premier League and Champions League.
Haaland, on the other hand, has broken that record in just 39 appearances; translating to an astonishing average of 1.15 goals whenever he’s featured for City.
Only in the Carabao Cup and the Community Shield has the Norwegian scored fewer goals than he’s played games, having found the net 30 times in 27 Premier League appearances, 11 times in 7 Champions League matches and three times in two FA Cup matches.
Types of goals
Haaland’s instincts in and around the penalty box are emphasised when breaking down his 2022/23 goal record, with 40 of his 45 strikes coming with his first touch.
Furthermore, of the Norwegian’s 45 goals this season in all competitions, only his effort away to Wolves in September 2022 has been scored from outside the area.
This bears a striking resemblance to van Nistelrooy’s record, with all the Dutchman’s 44 goals notched from within 18 yards. However, 12 of those were penalties, with only six of Haaland’s not from open play.
City’s number nine has found the net 28 times with his left foot and on 10 occasions with his right, while he has also scored seven headed goals.
Who assisted?
Kevin De Bruyne reached a century Premier League assists in record time earlier this month, with Haaland the beneficiary of his pinpoint cross away to Southampton.
The pair have forged a devastating partnership in 2022/23, with the Belgian setting up the Norwegian (9) more than any other City player so far this season.
However, the strength of Pep Guardiola’s men lies in the collective, with 11 other members of the squad also turning provider for Haaland across his maiden campaign to date, a record shared with Salah from 2017/18.
However, neither the Egyptian nor van Nistelrooy were assisted by their goalkeeper in their campaigns, like the Norwegian was when Ederson set him up against Brighton in October 2022.
The opposition
City’s number nine has found the net against 22 of the 24 different opponents he’s faced so far this season.
Indeed, The Norwegian has only drawn a blank against Brentford and Chelsea so far – equating to an astonishing 91% success rate.
However, with Pep Guardiola’s men still to face both sides again this season, there’s still time for Haaland to increase that already phenomenal record!
Treble maker
Haaland has also grabbed six hat-tricks in 2022/23, more than van Nistelrooy and Salah’s combined hauls.
That tally includes three successive trebles in Premier League home matches, a record for the competition, while the forward also became the first player to score three times in successive halves, against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.
Focusing just on the league, he needs just one more three-goal haul to match Alan Shearer’s tally for 1995/96 – the most across a single Premier League campaign.
The Norwegian is also already 50% of the way to Sergio Aguero’s Club record haul of 12 hat-tricks, despite not yet completing his first full season at the Etihad Stadium.
