Erling Haaland is the top goalscorer across all competitions in Europe’s top five leagues in 2023.

Haaland scored 44 across the last 12 months, which put him one ahead of Harry Kane, who bagged 43 for Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich.

He was also two in front of PSG’s Kylian Mbappe on 42, seven ahead of Inter’s Lautaro Martinez on 37 and 14 in front of Liverpool’s Mo Salah on 30.

The divisions on the list were the English Premier League, French Ligue 1, German Bundesliga, Italy’s Serie A and Spain’s LaLiga.

Amazingly, Haaland has been in the top five list for the past four years, having bagged 37 in 2022, 43 in 2021 and 33 in 2020 for Borussia Dortmund.

Leading scorers in those years were Kylian Mbappe with 44 in 2022 with Robert Lewandowski top in the three years before that with 58 in 2021, 45 in 2020 and 48 in 2019.

The last City player to appear on the list was Raheem Sterling in 2019 when he scored 35 goals, putting him fifth that year.

Haaland’s 44 goals in 2023 were broken down as 42 inside the box, two outside the box and 10 from the penalty spot.

There were 30 left footed, five right footed, eight headed and one classed as ‘other’.

His most goals were against RB Leipzig (6), Burnley (5), Young Boys (4), Fulham (4) and Wolves (3).

The appearance of Leipzig at the top of the list is no surprise, given Haaland scored five in the second leg of the Round of 16 Champions League 7-0 win at the Etihad.

In the process, he became the third player to score five goals in a single Champions League game.

It also put him up to 33 goals in 26 Champions League games, reaching the 30-goal milestone in fewer matches than any other player in the competition’s history – and becoming the youngest player to reach 30 goals in Champions League history at 22 years and 236 days.

These were far from the only milestones for Haaland during an impeccable 2022/23 campaign.

He won Premier League Golden Boot, European Golden Shoe, Etihad Player of the Season, Premier League Player of the Season, Premier League Young Player of the Season, FWA Men’s Footballer of the Year, Ballon d’or Men’s Gerd Muller Trophy, UEFA Men’s Player of the Season, BBC Sports Personality World Sport Star of the Year, NWFA Premier League Player of the Season and also appeared in the Champions League Team of the Season.

Haaland scored most Premier League goals in one season – 36, most goals in all competitions by a player at a Premier League club – 52, most goals and assists in a 38-game Premier League season – 44 and his hat-trick tally was as many as every other Premier League player combined – 6.

Congratulations to Erling on yet another milestone.
