Nico O'Reilly and Mateo Kovacic scored late goals in City's 100th and final trip to Goodison Park to inspire a 2-0 Premier League victory and propel us back into fourth place in the table.

On the half-hour mark, the first big chance of the game arrived for the hosts, with James Garner’s in-swinging corner met by the head of Everton skipper James Tarkowski, but his header crashed off the post and was cleared safely by the City defence.

Shortly before the interval, Blues’ captain Kevin De Bruyne was denied a certain goal as his curling effort looked destined for the bottom corner, only for Jake O’Brien to expertly adjust his body to stoop and head the ball out for a corner.

With 20 minutes left to play, Ilkay Gundogan found space on the edge of the box and drove a shot towards goal, but it was easily gathered by Jordan Pickford, before the shot-stopper got down smartly to also deny Savinho and Omar Marmoush.

But O’Reilly was not to be denied in the 84th minute, meeting a Matheus Nunes cross inside the six-yard box to poke in, scoring in the Premier League for the second week in succession.

Two minutes into stoppage time, substitute Mateo Kovacic struck City’s second, finding the bottom corner from Ilkay Gundogan’s neat lay-off, also netting in successive weeks, to send us into fourth place, one point above Nottingham Forest who are yet to play this week.
