City skipper Fernandinho admitted that our FA Cup semi-loss to Chelsea was a tough pill to swallow.

A tightly contest clash at Wembley was settled by Hakim Zyech’s second half strike to end our hopes of appearing in next month’s showpiece final.

Reflecting on the loss, the Brazilian skipper was left to reflect on the tightest of margins but was generous in his praise for our opponents.

“It’s a big disappointment to lose an FA Cup semi-final – it is hard and tough to take,” Ferna reflected.

“We have to congratulate Chelsea - they got the chance and scored the goal.

“It was an important match for us but they were a bit better than us and congratulations to them.

“Unfortunately, we were not able to play good football and take the chances.

“The way we play we try to press as high as we can and we give a bit of space behind our back line and they exploited that.”

City made eight changes for the Wembley showpiece but the skipper said that had no bearing on the result.

“The rotation of the team is normal, the boss tries to play everyone,” Ferna asserted.

“Every match is important for us – every game we change players.”

Despite today’s result there is still so much to play for with City in the Carabao Cup final, 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League and with a Champions League semi-final also on the horizon.

And Fernandinho insisted the squad would instantly refocus our energies on the next challenge ahead of us.

“For the team which wants to fight for every trophy we have to refocus as soon as possible and tomorrow we will focus on Wednesday’s game at Aston Villa then the Carabao final,” Ferna added.

“Every game we have to be ready and to give our best on the pitch.”
