Ferran Torres believes every member of City’s squad will have a vital part to play in Saturday’s Champions League final against Chelsea.

City will tackle Thomas Tuchel’s side in the showpiece event in Porto seeking to claim a what would be a first-ever European Cup triumph.

Success would round off an amazing 2020/21 campaign which has already seen City regain the Premier League title and win a fourth successive Carabao Cup.

It has been a truly collective effort, with every member of Pep Guardiola’s squad making their own important contributions along the way.

And Spanish winger Torres believes that will be no different at the Estadio do Dragao on Saturday when City take on Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea as we seek what would be an unforgettable end to a season like no other.

“To win the Champions League you need the whole squad plugged-in because everyone is going to be important at some point of the game,” Torres asserted.

“It’s true, we don’t have a top scorer this season, but we have many players that can score goals and that is one of the main strengths of this team.”

“When you play Champions League you are facing the best teams in Europe.

“You also need a bit of luck in certain moments of the game. I think the team has made a step forward in terms of experience in the competition.

“We didn’t start the best way, but as the season went along, we have grown a lot as a team, and we deserve to be where we are now

“In the Premier League, you spend the whole year fighting for it, but the Champions League is special.

“It’s a competition involving the best teams in Europe and the feeling of winning it must be incredible. In a Champions League final, there aren’t any favourites

“It’s a final, so both teams are going to give everything on the pitch. Anything can happen, but I hope we can win it.

“Every player wants to win it and especially Manchester City as it could be the first one in our history.”

Torres has enjoyed an excellent first season at the Club following his move from Valencia last summer.

The winner of our Goal of the Season award for his spectacular effort away at Newcastle, the 21-year-old Spanish international has weighed in with 13 strikes across all competitions including four in Europe.

He has also prospered in a number of different roles allied to his natural position on the right flank and credits City boss Pep Guardiola with helping him thrive and develop both as a player and as an individual.

Pep Guardiola thinks about football 24/7. He has helped me a lot to grow as a player in my first year here,” Torres added.

“He’s helped me to learn how to play in different positions. He has taught me how to play as a left-winger - I wasn’t used to that!

“Also, he has taught me how to play as a false nine, especially at the beginning of the season

“I’m very grateful to him, because he gets involved individually in the growth and the development of the players.

“He gives you the key factors to play in different positions on the pitch and I think that is making me grow as a player and as a person.”
