The Englishman opened the scoring inside ten minutes, tapping in from a teasing Riyad Mahrez cross, before doubling the lead in the second half with a deflected effort.
Kevin de Bruyne‘s immaculate curling strike from 25 yards with just under ten minutes remaining secured the victory against a dogged and determined Bristol City.
Man of the Match Foden agreed that the hosts made it difficult for Pep Guardiola‘s men, but declared that our attacking nature shone through at Ashton Gate.
“I don’t think it was a 3-0 game to be honest really. It was quite tight at times,” he said.
“They gave us a big challenge, they went man for man at times and we struggled to win our individual duels.
“In the end our quality shone through. I’m delighted with the result.”
Foden has struggled with injury and form in recent months, but after his goal and assist last Saturday in the Premier League victory over Bournemouth, the 22-year-old played another starring role, scoring twice, having 76 touches and completing the match with 89% pass accuracy.
“I feel much better in my feet, it’s not easy sometimes playing with discomfort in your feet,” he said.
“I’m feeling 100% fit and comfortable. Hopefully I can come into the team and help them as much as possible.
“It’s been one of the lowest parts of my career. Everyone goes through them, but it’s how you react. Just discomfort in my feet and not playing as much, I love playing football and when I don’t I’m a bit frustrated, that’s how it is.”
The victory advances us into the quarter-final of the competition and Foden revealed that the squad is hungry for more domestic success.
“It’s very important. We’ve not won the FA Cup in a while. It’s something we’ve been speaking about and we want to go far and want to win it.
“The last few games have been brilliant, and we look like we’re making a step forward.
