Pep Guardiola’s men came into the encounter at Craven Cottage knowing that at least a draw would be enough to ensure a top-five finish and a 15th successive appearance in Europe’s elite competition, and we made the perfect start through Gundogan’s first league goal since his return last summer.
Matheus Nunes burst through the Fulham defence on the right flank and his dinked effort was deflected by the hand of goalkeeper Bernd Leno towards Gundogan, who acrobatically adjusted his body to crash a splendid overhead kick into the net via the crossbar.
We came close to doubling the lead on multiple occasions prior the interval, with Nico’s effort gathered well by Leno and Jeremy Doku seeing a shot deflected just wide.
The hosts also threatened a leveller shortly before the break through Harry Wilson, but his shot towards the far corner was superbly stopped by the sprawling Ederson, who palmed the ball into the path of Andreas Pereira, who could only find the side-netting.
With just over 20 minutes left to play, we doubled the lead from the penalty spot through Haaland, who stroked into the bottom left corner after Gundogan was fouled.
The victory means we end the 2024/25 season with a third-placed finish in the top-flight, ensuring Champions League football for another season, whilst City legend Kevin De Bruyne waved one final farewell to the fans.
