They are nominated alongside Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi, who moved to the United States from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
De Bruyne made 10 appearances in Europe’s elite competition, scoring two goals and assisting seven en route to lifting the Champions League trophy for the first time in the Club’s history.
He was phenomenal in City’s midfield, earning four Player of the Match awards during the 2022/23 campaign.
It comes as no surprise that his fellow sky blue Haaland is also named on the shortlist, having taken the Premier League by storm in his debut season in the English top-flight.
But that’s not the only place where he stole the spotlight. On the European stage, he made 11 appearances, scored 12 goals and assisted one.
A spectacular acrobatic winner against former club Borussia Dortmund was perhaps the most memorable of his strikes, while he also became not only the youngest but the quickest player to net 35 Champions League goals – five of which he scored in our 7-0 win over RB Leipzig in the Round of 16.
The winner of the award will be announced at the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League group stage draw ceremony, which will take place on Thursday 31 August.
If De Bruyne or Haaland are victorious, they would become the first City player to receive the prestigious award.
Everyone at City would like to send their congratulations to Kevin and Erling on being shortlisted for the award.
