The Norwegian took his tally to 59 goals from just 59 matches for Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund and City with his double against FC Porto in our 2-0 victory in our 2026/27 European opener on Tuesday.
Of that total, 36 have come for City, which leaves him level with Sergio Aguero as our record scorer in the competition.
Haaland, who has five goals in five matches already this season, is rightly proud of his record but wants a lot more.
“Not bad – I think if you tell a young Erling Haaland this, he would be very happy,” he said.
“I’m really proud of these numbers but I’m only 26 and I’m hungry for more.”
His two goals also took him past Tommy Johnson, who scored 166 times in 355 games between 1920 and 1930, to become the third greatest goalscorer in City history.
It was also a perfect start to our campaign against a side that had won their opening five matches in Portugal, conceding just one goal and were unbeaten at home in 2026.
“The Champions League is always difficult - especially to play against the champions of their countries’ league,” Haaland added.
“It’s never easy and you need to appreciate every single goal in this competition because this competition is special and I’m super happy to have scored two goals.
“I think we expected a really tough game, I guess as champions [in their league] they have confidence and are playing like winners.
“We knew it was going to be a difficult game, and they were going to come fight in an amazing stadium with the fans behind them so well done to them.
“But we managed to fight and to keep the ball. We were good enough so in the end we got the win.”
The striker has continued his fine form from the World Cup where he helped Norway reached the quarter-finals.
It was a remarkable tournament for his country and Haaland was the face of their hugely popular team.
“I feel quite good to be honest - of course we need a few games to get into the season, and they were not easy because it’s a long season, but you have to try to get through it,” he said.
“The World Cup was a huge thing, of course physically and mentally and it will take time to digest all these crazy things [that] happened in the US.
“But it’s about taking it day by day, game by game and trying not to think too much and try to look ahead because we can only do things from the present moment not in the past or future.”
