Hat-trick hero Erling Haaland has expressed his delight after Ilkay Gundogan made his return to the pitch for the Club in our 4-1 Premier League victory over Ipswich Town.

The visitors took the lead after seven minutes through Sammie Szmodics, but Haaland responded with the leveller five minutes later, rolling in from the penalty spot after Savinho was fouled.

Kevin De Bruyne then struck us ahead with his 150th club career goal, before Haaland further extended our lead, making it three City goals in three minutes and 11 seconds at a raucous Etihad Stadium.

Our no.9 completed his treble shortly before full-time, striking in from 20 yards to claim his 10th City hat-trick.

After the game, the Norwegian was asked about the reception that Gundogan received from the City fans when he was substituted on in the 71st minute, after he rejoined the Club following a one year spell at Barcelona.

“Amazing,” he said. “When he’s in the locker room, and the treatment room, it feels normal to just see him.

“It’s good to have him back. He’s an amazing footballer, everyone knows this already. I cannot wait to play with him again.

“The first game of the season at home so we all looked forward to it. I know how difficult it is to come to the Etihad so I had this at the back of my mind. I’m happy to start this way.

“We tried to get one more goal, it didn’t happen until the end. We’re happy with the win and that’s what is important.”

New signing Savinho made his first start at the Etihad and claimed two assists.
