Erling Haaland was singing the praises of Elliot Anderson after the Englishman assisted the winner in our thrilling 3-2 UEFA Champions League victory over RB Leipzig.

Castello Lukeba’s own goal had Enzo Maresca’s men on top at half-time, but the hosts levelled shortly after the interval as Ridle Baku’s cross snuck in.

Enzo Fernández superbly connected to Iliman Ndiaye’s inviting cross to head us back in front, before Antonio Nusa levelled the scores once again in a frantic second-half.

Erling Haaland had the final say, sliding in the winner with his 13th touch of the game after a determined run and precise cross from the energetic Anderson.

However, it wasn’t just the assist that saw our summer-signing shine at the Red Bull Arena.

Anderson had 102 touches of the ball, won 10 ground duels, made seven tackles and registered seven recoveries in an action-packed midfield display.

“He’s been amazing,” began Haaland in an interview after the victory. “He’s had an amazing start to his City career and that’s what you expect, you have to come straight in and perform.

“That’s how the world is now and it’s not easy, normally you need time to adapt and time to get to know your new teammates and the new coach.

“He’s been impressive. Respect.

“13 touches, it’s not the most but what is the most important? I helped the team to win so I’m super happy. In the end we need to step up a little bit.

“When we were 1-0 up we needed to push forward a bit more to go for the second and third, We have to work on that.”

Our prolific striker now has 13 career strikes in nine appearances against Leipzig, the most he’s scored against a single club.

“I think it’s the most I’ve scored against a club,” he continued. “I’ve played so many times against them with City in the Champions League and with [Borussia] Dortmund as well. Leipzig is a good team so I’m super happy about that.

“You can look at it in a few different ways. You can look at it as it’s difficult to keep concentrated for 100 minutes or look at it in a positive way that it’s only 100 minutes to be fully focused to hopefully be ready when the chance comes.

“I look at it in the second option.”
