And the 26-year-old also revealed how there are more comparisons between Manchester and Madrid than meet the eye.
The Spain international’s move to the Club from Diego Simeone’s side represented his first outside of his native country - following spells at the Colchoneros and Villarreal.
Although the prospect of doing so may seem daunting, Rodrigo explained how the similarities between the two locations helped him settle.
“I think yes (there are comparisons) because in Madrid you have the rivalry between Madrid and Atletico and then here I arrive and there is the same rivalry against United,” he said.
“You have lots of big teams with rivalries.
“The atmosphere of the city and the rivalries. Everything and, of course, you have to adapt yourself in a new country, new food, new everything and new weather, of course.”
Since signing for Pep Guardiola’s side, Rodrigo has been a mainstay in the team that has lifted two Premier League titles, two Carabao Cups and a Community Shield.
In total he has made 161 appearances for the club, scoring 13 goals.
And he has credited his personality with assisting his development at the Etihad Stadium.
“I’m the kind of guy who adapts very early and soon to these kinds of things and I love to taste everything. Go and have a walk and it was the perfect city. It is small, you can go walk everywhere,” Rodrigo added.
“And of course, it has the best things and it’s the place you want to be to be a footballer. If you are happy being in the team, you are happy with everything.
“That’s the most important thing.”
