Ilkay Gundogan says it is a joy to play in this Manchester City side after being named February’s Premier League Player of the Month.

The German midfielder also won January’s prize and continued his fine form with a series of impressive performances to become the first City player to receive the award in consecutive months.

Gundogan was again one of City’s leading lights as Pep Guardiola’s side won all six Premier League games, scoring four goals and providing one assist in his five appearances.

The 30-year-old has deservedly earned rave reviews for his performances this season and he admits he is enjoying his football with a squad he believes is at the top of its game.

“I am very proud to win this award again – but I am most proud of being part of this amazing team,” he said.

“To win all our games in February, like we did in January, is amazing. I get the sense we are playing really good football and being part of that makes me happy.

“Hopefully we can continue like this because, ultimately, winning trophies is what matters. I know all the squad want that to happen and we will try our best from now until the end of the season.”

Gundogan has thrived in a more advanced role within Guardiola’s free-flowing system, which was evident throughout February.

Goalscoring has been the hallmark of his brilliant campaign and he took his tally to 13 when he hit back-to-back braces in the impressive victories over Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

Having missed a penalty at Anfield, City’s No.8 responded emphatically with two poacher’s efforts, whilst against Spurs his composure was evident with a couple of smart finishes in a Man of the Match display.

Gundogan beat Joao Cancelo, Joachim Andersen (Fulham), Harvey Barnes (Leicester), Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United), Jesse Lingard (West Ham United), Ruben Neves (Wolves) and Raphinha (Leeds United) to February’s prize.

Everyone at Manchester City congratulates Ilkay on his award and wishes him the best of luck for the rest of the season.
