Ferran Torres played for 88 minutes as Spain beat Switzerland 1-0 at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano in Madrid.

Torres was replaced by City team-mate Rodrigo, as Mikel Oyarzabal scored the only goal of the game on 14 minutes, while Eric Garcia was an unused sub.

The victory leaves Spain two points clear of Germany in Group F in the UEFA Nations League.

Torres again impressed for La Roja.

The City winger was lively and a threat throughout, with only a fine save from Yann Sommer denying Torres his second international goal as his header from Jesus Navas’ cross was turned around by the Borussia Monchengladbach keeper.

Earlier in the day, Brazil beat Bolivia 5-0 World Cup qualifier win, but Ederson was surprisingly left on the subs’ bench while Palmeiras keeper Weverton played, winning his third cap.

Om Friday evening, Riyad Mahrez skippered Algeria to a 1-0 win away to Nigeria, with the City winger playing 72 minutes before being subbed.

Algeria are now unbeaten in 19 games.
