Jack Grealish has admitted he can’t expect to play every game for City.

Grealish was a pivotal part of our historic Treble last season and started this campaign excellently before picking up an injury against Sheffield United in August.

Since then the England international has battled back to fitness and seen Jeremy Doku settle in on the wing.

However, he has recently returned to form, starring in the comprehensive win at Manchester United before playing a full 90 minutes against Young Boys earlier this week.

The 28-year-old has welcomed the competition for places that comes with being part of Pep Guardiola’s star-studded squad.

“That’s my first 90 minutes in about six weeks. It’s what I wanted,” he said after the Champions League win on Tuesday night.

“Obviously, I want to play every game and to play the 90 tonight was nice. We have so much talent all over the pitch – I don’t think I expect to play every game and I don’t think anyone does.

“The manager has a tough job picking an 11 every single week. It’s a pleasure to play in this team and what a team it is. I love being out there playing with the boys.”

Grealish was speaking after City had guaranteed safe passage to the knockout stages of the Champions League for the 11th consecutive season.

The Blues now know that victory over RB Leipzig at the end of the month will seal top spot with a game to spare.

Reflecting on our qualification for the last 16, Grealish saw it as a job well done but remained focused on the task still to come.

“We achieved what we set out to do,” he stated.

“That was the plan – we have so many games every year as a team. To get the job done with two games to spare is what we set out to do and thankfully we’ve done it.

“Leipzig are a very good team – we want to win the game to top the group with a game to spare.

“Champions League nights at the Etihad are unmatched. They’re brilliant. We haven’t lost here for a good while now so hopefully many more nights like this.”
