Joleon Lescott has hailed Oscar Bobb as City’s ‘standout’ performer on our pre-season tour of the United States of America so far.

In preparation for the 2024/25 campaign, Pep Guardiola’s side have spent a week and a half Stateside while playing friendlies against Celtic, AC Milan and Barcelona.

We will then conclude the trip with a clash with Chelsea on Saturday 3 August.

Across our three warm-up assignments to date, Bobb has started each and starred throughout for a youthful Blues side.

He scored in our 4-3 defeat to Celtic, registered an assist in a narrow 3-2 loss to AC Milan and was denied another when Erling Haaland met his pinpoint cross against the Catalan giants before Inaki Pena made a phenomenal save to deny the Norwegian.

For Lescott, Bobb’s displays in the US are a sign of his immense progression after making his senior debut last term.

“I think Oscar’s been the standout performer throughout the three games [of City’s pre-season tour of the United States] so far,” he declared on Matchday Live.

“I think he’s probably made the most right decisions, regardless of the outcome.

“His decision making has been perfect and that’s all you can ask for from someone so young – but of any player – if they get into the right positions, what is the outcome?

“It’s a cross to the back stick [tonight], he’s recognised Erling’s pulled away from the defender, but to us it did look like a save.”

Joining Bobb in City’s pre-season squad was a swathe of exciting Academy players who impressed for our Elite Development Squad and Under-18s last term.

After captaining Ben Wilkinson’s side to the Premier League U18 National title in 2022/23, Nico O’Reilly continued his development for our Under-21s the following season before starting each of Guardiola’s side’s matches in the US so far.

And Lescott believes the midfielder has continually progressed during his time with City’s senior squad after the teenager netted in our 2-2 draw and eventual penalties defeat to Barcelona.

He added: “Nico’s obviously learned from previous games and I think he approached the game with the mentality of ‘this is Barcelona’ regardless of who he was playing against, I think he realised it was Barcelona at the end of the day.

“If he goes into every game with that mindset, he’ll come out on top because again he showed a lot more glimpses than in previous games of what he’s capable of.”
