Josko Gvardiol says he is 'grateful' to have lifted the Premier League in his first season in English football.

The Croatian defender arrived from RB Leipzig last summer and has played a pivotal role in helping Pep Guardiola‘s side to a record fourth consecutive title.

Still just 22, Gvardiol already has significant experience of lifting major trophies.

He won the Croatian top-flight with Dinamo Zagreb before going on to lift the DFB Pokal Cup in Germany with Leipzig.

However, it’s the Premier League that he coveted.

“It’s hard to describe,” he said after receiving his winner’s medal.

“I’m really happy that I had the opportunity to lift it. After the whole season, this is the hardest trophy to win and I’m more than grateful to achieve that.

“We need to enjoy these moments - especially the guys who have won it four in a row.”

Having played at centre-back for most of his time at Leipzig and with the Croatian national team, Gvardiol has spent this season on the left of the defence.

Recent weeks have seen him develop as a genuine threat at the top end of the pitch, ending the season with four goals in his last seven Premier League appearances.

And Gvardiol says he’s relishing this role and willing to do whatever Guardiola asks of him.

“I’m enjoying it,” he began.

“For me as a defender and playing forward and today being more in the middle - it’s something I’m not used to but I’m trying to be there and do my work for the manager.

“I think I’ve done a good job and I’m more than happy.

“I have hunger and spaces to work on and learn. I’m keen to give my best and help the team win the game. I will do everything to help the team win a game.”

On Guardiola, our No.24 could not have been more positive.

“An unbelievable coach. There are many things to talk about him,” he said.

“We are really happy that we have him and I’m not afraid to say that he’s one of the best managers.

“He’s the one that tries to get the best version of you on pitch - he gives you the confidence to perform on the pitch.

“Even before the game, we had a meeting and we didn’t talk about tactics, he put a video on of the whole season - us playing and scoring goals. He’s just different and I believe everyone in the dressing room loves him so much.”
