Josko Gvardiol says he's still learning exactly how to play in Pep Guardiola's City side.

The Croatian defender arrived in Manchester from Tuesday night’s opposition RB Leipzig during the summer.

He has since featured on 13 occasions, including nine times in the Premier League.

With City second in the league and already through to the last 16 of the Champions League, Gvardiol has played his part in a positive start to our defence of our Treble.

However, he feels there’s plenty more to come from him once he’s had more time on the training ground.

“I’m still adapting now, It’s a process. Of course it takes time,” he said.

“I wasn’t there with them in pre-season, I missed a lot but it is what it is. Each dayI’m trying to learn as much as I can to be ready for every coming game.

“Hopefully in January we’ll have some time to work on my positioning in the pitch.

“Every game is a new challenge. Especially because it’s my first season and I’m looking forward to every game.

“There is lots of rotation from Pep’s side, but for me it’s good because I’m still young.”

At just 21, Gvardiol already has the experience of a player many years his senior.

The youngster has won major trophies in Croatia and Germany and played every game as Croatia reached the semi-finals of last year’s World Cup.

Having moved from his home in Zagreb to Leipzig in 2020, Gvardiol feels he has gathered all the tools required to be a success at City.

He stated: “The three years in Leipzig helped me a lot to become a better person and player and be ready for the next stage which is the Premier League.

“It’s the best league in the world and it’s an honour to be here with the best club at the moment. I’m finding it really good.”

Capable of playing centrally or on the left, Gvardiol has been used largely as a left-back in his early days at City.

Having been at the heart of defence for Leipzig and Croatia just before making the move, it’s been an adjustment for the Croatian.

“Being a full-back, I used to play there when I was at Dinamo Zagreb and in my first few games at Leipzig.,” he said.

“It’s something I like, I like both positions but of course they aren’t the same, it takes time to change the mindset and the position is different.

“It’s lots of running. I like it but it’ll take time to adapt.”
