City have qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League with two games to spare and we go into Sunday’s clash at Chelsea aiming to extend our advantage at the top of the Premier League.
But with so many matches between now and the end of the season, Alvarez says the squad is just concentrating on building on a strong start in Europe and the Premier League.
“Before starting every season we know that there are going to be a lot of games, a lot of different competitions, and at this club the demand is that you are always fighting on all fronts, in every competition possible,” the City striker said.
“We’re in a good position in the Premier League and the Champions League, and we have the FA Cup to come.
“We prepare week on week for everyone to be physically ready to help the team and so that we can get to December or January, the middle of the season, with chances in every competition going into the last six months of the season, which are hard with a lot of difficult games.
“We’ve started the first few months of the season very well. We’re in first place in the Premier League and our Champions League group and I think we’ve performed well too.
“We’ve had a lot of injuries over these months, but the team has been able to maintain its rhythm, earning three points and playing well.
“We know it’s a long season, but it’s been great to start like this and we have to continue in this way.”
After winning the Treble last season, Alvarez believes that everyone is desperate to beat City and that means we cannot afford to drop our high standards.
“We knew that after winning everything last season all the other teams were going to play in a different way, knowing that we are champions,” he added.
“But being conscious of this makes you even more alert and makes you go into games paying full attention, trying to reach the highest level possible as an individual and as a team to win as we have been doing.”
Among the reasons for our good start has been the form of Alvarez himself with the Argentine claiming seven goals and five assists already this season.
The 23-year-old has spent much of the campaign in a slightly deeper role behind striker Erling Haaland and has been enjoying the responsibility of the position.
“I’ve been here for a year now and I’ve learnt a lot, how to move in different spaces,” he said.
“Now I’m playing in this different position a little deeper, closer to the centre midfield, as I did a few times last season too.
“After getting minutes and being here for a year I’ve learnt a lot, watching my teammates, listening to them, the coaching staff, watching videos and things like that, to be more effective on the pitch, to know where the spaces are and to link up better with my teammates to create goalscoring chances.”
