And the forward has now become the first player ever to lift the Treble and the prestigious international prize in a single campaign.
Pep Guardiola’s side are champions of Europe following a 1-0 victory over Inter in Istanbul on Saturday.
Argentine striker Alvarez was part of the City squad at the Olympic Ataturk Stadium as Guardiola’s sealed a historic Treble of Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.

The triumph capped a sensational first season at the Etihad for the 23-year-old who moved to City from Argentine side River Plate last year.
All told, Alvarez scoring 17 goals in all competitions across the campaign (our second highest total), including three across the course of our triumphant Champions League campaign.
Saturday’s memorable triumph also saw him become only the 10th player in football history to achieve the incredible feat of winning both the World Cup and Champions League in the same campaign.
As well as his European and domestic success with City, Alvarez was also part of the Argentina team that were crowned world champions at the 2022 World Cup finals held in Qatar last winter.
Alvarez enjoyed a sensational World Cup campaign for Lionel Scaloni’s side, scoring four goals across the tournament and starting in the final as the South Americans overcame France 4-2 on penalties after the sides had drawn 3-3 in a thrilling final in Doha.
Prior to Alvarez’s magnificent achievement, only nine other players had achieved the prestigious double.
Six came from the West Germany and Bayern Munich sides that secured respective World Cup and European Cup glory in 1974.
Sepp Maier, Paul Breitner, Hans-Georg Schwarzenbeck, Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Müller and Uli Hoeness all helped Bayern overcome Atletico Madrid 4-0 in a European Cup final replay after the teams had drawn 1-1 in Brussels.
Seven weeks later the sextet were all part of the West German side that beat Holland 2-1 in Munich to be crowned world champions in July 1974.
Christian Karembeu of Real Madrid and France was next to achieve the remarkable feat in 1998.
The midfielder helped Real edge out Juventus 1-0 in that year’s Champions League showpiece held in Amsterdam before then playing his part in securing World Cup glory for France via a 3-0 win over Brazil in that summer’s Paris final.
Four years later Roberto Carlos became the eighth player to join the exclusive club. The Brazilian first helped Real Madrid beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 in Glasgow to win the 2002 Champions League.
Eight weeks later the left back helped Brazil to be crowned world champions for a fifth time via a 2-0 victory over Germany in the World Cup final.

The entrance to the parade stage viewing area is accessible via Oxford Street and Portland Street from 17:00 (UK) and all fans will be searched before entering.
This is a non-ticketed event, so we suggest fans arrive early to get the best possible viewing experience. There will also be screens on Oxford Street, Chepstow Street and Portland Street showing all the action on stage.
