Julian Alvarez insists he and his City team-mates have the same level of hunger to fight for the Treble once again following last season’s historic success.

The Argentine was part of Pep Guardiola’s squad to be crowned champions of Europe for the first time in our history, completing a hat-trick of trophies alongside the Premier League and FA Cup.

City have started the new season brightly with two wins in as many league matches while also claiming the Super Cup on penalties against Sevilla.

And Alvarez, who grabbed the only goal of the game in Saturday’s hard-fought win over Newcastle, says he and his team-mates are excited to try and build on last year’s remarkable achievements.

“It won’t be easy at all [to win the Treble again,” he explained following our win over the Magpies.

“We achieved something that very few teams have been able to do, but of course the hunger, desire and passion to play well will still be there.

“We know how difficult it will be, but we’ve started well, and we are going to work hard to keep achieving great things.”

The Argentine’s versatility has been a key asset to Pep Guardiola since his summer move from River Plate in 2022, with the boss often deploying El Arana out wide or as a centre-forward.

He began in a central role alongside Erling Haaland on Saturday and expertly shouldered that responsibility, firing home an unstoppable drive to earn all three points.

But Alvarez insists that he treats every appearance, regardless of the position he’s played in, as an opportunity to continue his rapid development.

Speaking of his role against Newcastle he said: “I played in this position a few times last season too.

“I try to learn every day, to adapt to different positions that they play me in, the different movements I need to make to help the team – wherever that may be.

“I’m always happy when I’m called upon to play, it’s a great feeling and I always try to give my best to help the team.”
