The England international arrives at the Etihad Stadium from boyhood club Leeds United, where he made just shy of 250 appearances since making his debut in April 2015.
Penning a six-year deal, the midfielder becomes our third signing of the summer, following in the footsteps of German goalkeeper Stefan Ortega Moreno and Haaland.
And the 26-year-old is confident that the Norwegian has all the skills necessary to thrive in the Premier League.
“He’s an amazing player. His goal record speaks for itself (and) his finishing is unbelievable,” Phillips said of our new striker.
“He’s played in a team that’s done well as well when he’s been there.
“I know that he’s supposed to be a nice lad because Jude Bellingham told me a lot about him.
“I think he’s just going to come into the league and hit off right where he finished with Dortmund, hopefully get us a few goals early and then he’ll fly from there.”
After helping earn his boyhood club a return to the top flight for the first time in 16 years back in 2020, Phillips took to the cut and thrust of the Premier League with ease over the following two campaigns.
During his time at Elland Road, he would lock horns with City on three occasions, losing just once.
And during those matchups with Pep Guardiola’s side, the midfielder admits that one particular member of the squad caught his eye.
He said: “You could say you’re spoiled for choice (at Manchester City) to be fair!
“There are some amazing players, Kevin De Bruyne’s one of them.
“I played against him, and I’ve had to mark him in a few games so he’s one of the players that I can’t wait to play with.”
Our latest recruit also revealed the influence that fellow City and England stars John Stones and Kyle Walker had on his decision to join the Club.
Pep Guardiola’s men boast a strong Yorkshire contingent among the squad, with Leeds-born Phillips (and Haaland) adding to that number.
And City’s new number four told mancity.com about the positive words Walker and Stones had to say about the Club while the trio were on international duty.
“I spoke to them (Stones and Walker) at the last England camp when there were quite a lot of rumours going around,” Phillips explained.
“The lads were saying: ‘you need to come to City, it’s one of the best teams in the world. We’ve got a great manager and great people around the club’.
“(They also said) the way that the Club runs is totally different to other clubs.
“I was very intrigued obviously when they were telling me about it and eventually it happened.
“I’m looking forward to getting into the training ground, meeting the boys and training as well.”
