City are aiming to make it three consecutive Carabao Cup victories having beaten Chelsea and Arsenal in the last two seasons.
We go into game high on confidence following a 2-1 away victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League Round-of-16 on Wednesday night.
The City midfielder was asked about the importance of the Carabao Cup and was quick to reiterate that any trophy is important for a City side that crave winning.
“Not everyone prioritises it in the same way that we do,” claimed De Bruyne. “We’re here to win trophies and the League Cup is an important competition in the history of English football.
“To have reached four finals in my five seasons here shows how much attention we pay to it.
“Players dream of walking out at Wembley and lifting trophies; that’s what we’ve done over the last few seasons and it’s what we hope to do again on Sunday.
“Lifting a trophy so early in the season can push you on for what’s to come and obviously momentum plays a huge part in that.”
Wembley plays host to the final on Sunday and De Bruyne is determined to make the most of playing at the “special” stadium again.
“We want to treat this as any other game and so having that experience of coming to the ground, playing on the pitch, walking up the steps to lift the trophy; that’s all valuable to us.
“Going there means that you are doing things right and so now we have to finish the job. We’re excited about playing at Wembley and hopefully winning the trophy again.”
City’s opponents Aston Villa defeated the odds when making the final and De Bruyne insisted that we shouldn’t underestimate Dean Smith’s side.
“This is a final and Villa’s fans will turn up just as hopeful as ours that they can achieve something special,” the Belgian stated.
“They have some outstanding players and have had to work hard to get to the final.
“When they drew Leicester in the semi-finals, the same people who say we are favourites will have said that Leicester would reach the final over two legs, but that isn’t how cup competitions work.
“Our focus is on what we do to make sure that when we line up, we are as ready as we can be to win that game and bring the trophy home for our fans.”
