Kevin De Bruyne’s stellar impact has been recognised once more with the City midfielder having been named Premier League Player of the Season in the 2020 Northwest Football Awards.

It’s the latest individual award for De Bruyne who enjoyed a magnificent 2019/20 campaign for City and ended that season as the recipient of five other prestigious prizes.

He won the Premier League Playmaker prize back in July having equalled Thierry Henry’s record of 20 assists in a single season, a milestone which had stood for 17 years.

In August, our fans voted him as our Etihad Player of the Season before he was then named Premier League Player of the Season.

Then in September, he became the first male City player to win the PFA Player of the Year prize, which is voted for by professionals across England’s four top divisions and he was named as UEFA’s Midfielder of the Season, further recognition of his brilliance across the 2019-20 campaign.

The 29-year-old has also started the 2020/21 campaign in fine form and has also been entrusted with the City captain’s armband in the absence of the injured Fernandinho.


Now comes the latest recognition of his talent, with De Bruyne winning the prestigious Northwest prize ahead of stiff competition in the shape of fellow nominees Jordan Henderson of Liverpool and Burnley keeper Nick Pope.

Commenting on his latest award, De Bruyne said: “I just want to thank all the judges and fans for voting for me with this award.

“It’s always nice to win these individual awards and I’m looking forward to this season with City and we’re going to try to have a good season again.”
