Kevin De Bruyne says he and his City team-mates view it as a “positive pressure” to be involved in crucial matches that can be decisive in the hunt for trophies.

City have a Champions League semi-final with current holders Real Madrid and an FA Cup final against Manchester United at Wembley to come later this month.

But, before that, the focus is on the Premier League starting with Wednesday’s clash with West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium and an opportunity to return to the top of the table.

Before Arsenal moved back to the summit by beating Chelsea on Tuesday night, City boss Pep Guardiola said we must take advantage of our two games in hand and De Bruyne added that the squad are ready for the challenge.

“I think we enjoy playing these games,” the Belgian said. “I think we also understand the consequences. We have games where we have lost and that is part of football.

“There are also a lot of times where we have won these games. We are also confident that when we play these games, we can win them, knowing how hard it is.

“I think we should see it as positive pressure and that is it.”

Heading into May and fighting for three trophies has ignited talk of a potential ‘Treble’ by Guardiola’s side.

However, De Bruyne says the players are not discussing the possibility, with the focus remaining on the immediate games ahead, beginning with the Hammers.

“I feel like there is a lot of talk outside, but I don’t feel like in the team you talk about it a lot,” De Bruyne said.

“I don’t think, with the programme that we have, we are able to talk about all of these things and sometimes you just want to be 100 per cent on the next game.

“We have games every three days and you just want to do your job. We understand the situation, but I don’t think it changes the group which is good.”

The midfielder believes that City go into the crucial end of the season run of games in good form after winning all-but one of our last 14 games with the only draw at Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final following our 3-0 win in the first leg.

“In every season there are moments where it gets a bit tougher and moments where you are not in great form as a team,” De Bruyne said. “I would say even a few months ago, where we were, it was pretty okay.

“Obviously, the standards that have been set in the last five or six years, there has been seasons with 90-plus points all of the time and it is a pretty high standard and you get judged based on that.

“I think we came back in a really good groove and the last months have been really good. We have won most of our games.”
