The victory over the Londoners moved Pep Guardiola’s side back to the division’s summit and means victory in our final league assignment this term – a home fixture with West Ham – will secure a record fourth straight crown.
Erling Haaland scored either side of a heroic save by Stefan Ortega who denied a goalbound effort from Heung-min Son to move us within touching distance of the trophy.
But Walker believes we must maintain the high standards we’ve already set this term to collect three points over David Moyes’ side.
“It was always going to be difficult with the emotions and everything riding on it,” he explained.
“The lads did the job we needed to do. We’re one step closer but it’s not job done.
“At least we bring it down to the last game in front of our fans which is important. I think you have to take it every game as it comes. We had a job to do tonight, we’ve done that.
“We know how things can swing in football. The experience against Aston Villa, going two-nil down thinking ‘oh my gosh what’s happening here?’.
“As the manager said in there, we recover and three days to prepare for West Ham which is another final and hopefully we can make history for this great Club.”
Walker captained City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after being handed the armband at the beginning of the season.
And the England international hopes to pass on the first-rate education he received from legends to the next generation as we continue to pursue major honours.
He added: “Joining this Club, you learn from past captains and people who have been at the Club, it kind of gets bred into you. The manager has won countless things so that comes from the top.
“The likes of Fernandinho, Vincent Kompany, Yaya Toure, Gundo and Kevin [De Bruyne], who has been here for a number of years and won titles, you get that from them.
“I’m just trying to pass that onto the next generation coming through.
“It’s not job done by a million miles. We still have a game to go and a game to win and I will make sure the lads are fully focused come that game. Hopefully we can get the win.”
