Kyle Walker says victory in Friday’s FIFA Club World Cup final would be a fitting way to reward the fans who have followed City’s long, eventful journey to the Jeddah showpiece from our days playing at Maine Road.

The City and England full-back will lead his side out at the King Abdullah Sport City Stadium against Brazilian side Fluminense with the Club seeking what would be a historic fifth major trophy of 2023 following our capture of the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League and UEFA Super Cup.

Walker has been one of the key pillars in the remarkable era of success City have enjoyed under the inspired leadership of manager Pep Guardiola.

But addressing the media ahead of Friday’s huge global showdown in Saudi Arabia, Walker said the prospect of being crowned world champions also represented the ideal opportunity to reward the many supporters who have followed the Club on its long and eventful journey to this prestigious occasion.

And he says it would serve as the ideal showcase to also bring joy to the many fans who are out in the Red Sea coastal resort, cheering City on in person.

“For me it’s about this Club and putting it where it wants to be,” Walker declared.

“This is the first time the Club has been in this competition.

“The fans have travelled from Maine Road to the Etihad and the processes of being where this club is going to be.

“It’s mainly for them.

“It’s fantastic when you see blue shirts in the stadium cheering you on and celebrating goals with you.

“It’s great feeling and the more we keep winning, the more we are going to get in the stadium.

“We thank you for all your support in this country and in the Middle East.

“Hopefully we can keep playing well and you can support us more.”

Looking ahead to the game, the 33-year-old said the potential to capture a fifth major trophy this year would be right up there in terms of personal career highlights.

And he said it would represent the perfect way to cap an incredible 12 months that has already seen City win the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League and UEFA Super Cup.

“I have experienced a lot of career highs [but] it would top off what we did last season winning the Treble as a group of lads that have spent a lot of years together working towards the right direction,” Walker added.

“It would be on par with one of my greatest achievements.”
