The Three Lions can move into the World Cup semi-finals with a victory over Les Bleus this weekend, but keeping the inform Mbappe quiet is, many believe, key to England winning.
But City midfielder Phillips feels confident that Walker is more than up for the challenge.

“We know (Mbappe) is an amazing player, and he has been one of the top players for the last few years and is probably going to be one of the best players in the world,” said Phillips.
“We have to think about how to stop him and Giroud and Griezmann. We have been working on tactics to stop the whole team.
“But if there was anyone I would like to put up against Mbappe, it would be Kyle Walker because he is an unbelievable defender - and probably the only one that is quicker than him as well!
“He’s the quickest player I’ve played against in football.
“A lot of people obviously ask how quick he is and honestly you can’t explain it until you’ve seen it up against another quick player.
“I think we’ll see that in a couple of days.”
And the former Leeds United star was equally effusive with his praise for City and England defender John Stones.
Stones has been outstanding so far in Qatar, and Phillips says he expects nothing less of a defender he believes is as good as any in world football.
“For me, he’s one of the best centre-halves in the world,” he said.
“I’m not just saying that because he’s my friend or plays for Manchester City. He’s brought the form he has at City to England.
“He’s one of the best centre-halves when we’re attacking as well. He is so composed and confident on the ball.
“His partnership with Harry Maguire - they understand each other and feed off each other. As of now, it’s probably the best centre-half partnership in the tournament.”
And, while Phillips says he would select himself for the game against France, he understands it is difficult to chop and change a winning team.
“The three (midfielders) that have been playing have been doing an unbelievable job,” he said.
“I would choose myself to play in the game, but they have done so well so far and they’ve got results.
“Anyone who gets called upon would be ready for the challenge and be ready to do everything to help the team be successful.
“Obviously it’s a big game and it’s going to be a very tough one as well.
“Every player in these situations will want to do their best to play but if you don’t then you’re there to support the boys.
“Hopefully, I can get involved but I am looking forward to the atmosphere and the occasion.
“ I am still enjoying it. I am still having loads of fun.
“I’m not playing as much, which can be frustrating, but if you look at the players playing ahead of me and how well they are doing, I can’t really argue.
“I just need to keep working hard and getting fitter and fitter and then make an impact when I come on and be solid when I come on.”
