Paul Dickov says Ederson's late save from a Youri Tielemans volley was just as important to City's 1-0 win at Leicester as Kevin De Bruyne's goal.

De Bruyne‘s stunning effort in the 49th minute separated the sides in a match that was defined by City’s possession and Leicester’s stubborn defence.

As the final minutes approached, Leicester came forward in the hunt for an equaliser. That’s when a dipping Youri Tielemans volley appeared destined for the goal until Ederson shot up a hand to tip the ball on to the bar.

De Bruyne | Ederson proves class every week

The Brazilian hadn’t been required much up until that point, and Dickov was impressed with the concentration required to pull off such a big save when necessary.

Speaking on our Matchday Live show, he said: “The likes of Petr Cech and Peter Schmeichel were top goalkeepers because they made saves when they had nothing to do.

“That is a match-winning save. Who knows if Leicester scores then, it could be different.”

“As good as De Bruyne’s free-kick was, Ederson’s save was just as good.”

The victory took City to the top of the Premier League, one point ahead of Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta’s team face Nottingham Forest this afternoon knowing victory will see them return to the summit.

However, Dickov insists that playing before the teams around you can have a major psychological effect on your rivals.

“It does give you an advantage if you can get three points,” he said.

“Watching that today, it was difficult for them and they will be delighted to have come through it. Players do take note when teams are playing above you.”
