We’ve had the Centurions and the Fourmidables… now meet the ‘Impossibles’.

Pep Guardiola was asked whether a difficult few weeks off the pitch will galvanise his squad to even greater heights in the months that remain of the current season – and beyond.

The Catalan says, however, what his team have already achieved over the past 18 months or so is already and above and beyond.

“This team showed overall determination the last two seasons like no other club has done,” said Pep.

“Four domestic titles last season and we’ve won seven of the last eight competitions we played. It’s almost impossible.

“But the desire is always there. I don’t think we are going to do something special because they have this inside of themselves to do this regardless.

“I am working with exceptional players; I have the feeling they follow us 100%.”

The boss was also asked about his plans for the future and indicated that he is open minded about what will happen beyond his contract to the end of 2020/21.

“I don’t know,” he said. “I am here one more year and after it depends. It depends on results, the future, we will be five seasons together.

“If the club is happy with me to extend the contract… but even now I want to focus on these three months, do game by game and win each game.

“I didn’t regret one second to come here or extend the contract. That is important.

“After that the results dictate our job. It all depends on the results; every manager is sacked every manager has problems that is the reality of our job.

“I want to finish this contract then after that we will see.”
