Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are the visitors to the Etihad Stadium for a 12:30 (UK) kick-off on Saturday.
The Merseyside club are the only team other than City to win the Premier League in the last six seasons, having split our dominance of the division with the 2019/20 title.
Guardiola v Klopp | An incredible Premier League rivalry
Pep Guardiola recently described Liverpool as his toughest opponents during his seven plus years in Manchester.
“They make the challenge higher and higher, and help make us a better team in all departments. They challenge us like never a team has done before in my period here,” he said last month.
While our record at Anfield is patchy, we have enjoyed near total domination over Liverpool on our home turf.
Our only defeat against Liverpool at our home since 2008 is the November 2015 match in Klopp’s first trip to the Etihad.
Since Pep’s arrival at City, we have won four and drawn three of the league encounters between the sides in Manchester.
Those matches have included some of the best Premier League games in recent seasons, in particular the 2-2 draw in April 2022 as the two sides went to the wire in the 2021/22 title race as well as a 5-0 victory in September 2017 and a 4-1 thrashing last season.
Before Guardiola came to City, we won four and drew two of the other seven clashes since 2008 - excluding that singular defeat in 2015.
In the last 14 matches between the two sides at the Etihad Stadium, we have scored 33 times and conceded just 15.
In total since the inception of the Premier League, we have hosted Liverpool 26 times and won 10 times, scoring 45 goals.
