Pep Guardiola says Erling Haaland is ready and raring to play in Saturday’s FA Community Shield clash with Liverpool.

The Norwegian gave an impressive cameo in his first game for the club against Bayern Munich and could start against the Reds at the King Power Stadium.

The City boss has been impressed by what he has so far seen of our new No.9.

“He is ready to play tomorrow, and my first impression is he is a guy who is really good,” said Guardiola.

“He is a funny guy, and he has settled in really well.

“Good vibes in the locker room are important - more than anything you can say.

“We try to help his family, get apartment, see what we want to do in training - the rest is his quality.”

Haaland had one or two minor issues in pre-season and didn’t feature at all against Club America.

But Guardiola says he has no issues ahead of Saturday’s curtain-raiser.

“He feels good,” said the boss.

“I spoke with him in the last few days, and he can train, and he can move.

“At the end of August, we will know better than now.

“Now we have one game a week. He can train better. This competition arrives a bit earlier this season, but now we have the opportunity to play the Community Shield and we have to adapt.”

Much of the talk about City last season was the suggestion Guardiola elected not to play with a recognised striker for much of the time - but the boss disagrees.

“First, we played with a striker – Gabriel Jesus is a striker,” he said.

“If we play well, and respect the process, create chances, and put the ball close to the box, what we saw with (Haaland’s) numbers, he and Julian have this talent.

“But they will not do it alone - we have to help them.

“We have to have a good process and create chances close to the box.

“After that we have the feeling, they will score. If we play bad, they will not score. That is for sure.”

And Guardiola says all four of his new signings have been welcomed by the squad, adding that the loss of Fernandinho is something that the team will need to adjust to in the dressing room.

Asked how the quartet have been integrated, Pep said: “I didn’t see off the pitch - I don’t go to dinner with them.

“The new guys are always embraced by the guys who are here from day one.

“Fernandinho in the last years leaves an incredible legacy about how we have to live in the locker room - everyone now follows his example.”
