Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish were sidelined with injury for the midweek Champions League clash against FC Copenhagen.
Grealish will almost certainly miss the trip to Anfield, while Doku’s condition was not discussed at the Friday press conference.
“We have a day off today - tomorrow we are training, and we will see how they feel,” said Guardiola.
“We played three days after [the Manchester derby] and we have qualified for the Champions League.
“Yesterday morning we started to think about Liverpool.”
The City boss admitted it is the finer details that matter in clashes against our main title rivals.
He suggested that Liverpool have changed their style slightly from last season, but their new summer arrivals will also dictate a different challenge .
“We have already seen some details about the way they attack [which] is different to previous seasons.
“The quality of some players makes the game different. The main parts are the same and we know it quite well, but the little details we need to adjust.
“At the same time, knowing that, we must look at the games we and they have played recently and see if we need to adjust something to be more comfortable with the players that we have to play on Sunday.”
Guardiola also says he would face criticism if he changed City’s style for such a crucial game.
He says he has no plans to spring any major surprises, and it is more to do with the players he has available that will shape his thinking at Anfield.
“If we do something different, I am a genius and if we lose, I am an overthinking person,” said Pep.
“My process is ‘which players do we have?’ - will Doku be ready and when Jack will be ready?
“We will know tomorrow - and then we know what we can do.
“The impact will be the same. The difference sometimes is the quality of the players - the little details…
“But the main pattern is the same. Make the game quick, contact with runners.
“It’s quite similar to when I met him in Dortmund when I was at Bayern.”
