Luke Mbete has joined Huddersfield Town on a season-long loan.

The 18-year-old defender will spend the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign with Danny Schofield’s Championship outfit in what is the first loan move of his career.

The loan will provide the England Under-19 international with an opportunity to compete for regular first-team football, and afford him the opportunity to further build on the experience he gained last season, when he played three times for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Mbete made his senior debut in City’s 6-1 Carabao Cup third-round victory over Wycombe Wanderers in September 2021.

He then followed that up with his maiden FA Cup appearance when coming off the bench in our 4-1 third round victory at Swindon Town in January.

The central defender, who joined the Club at Under-12 level, also went onto make his Champions League bow in our 5-0 last 16 first leg victory away to Sporting in February.

A powerful presence at the heart of defence armed with great composure and comfortable in possession, the teenager gained extensive experience by training regularly with City’s senior side last season.

And his development was further enhanced by regular game time with the Elite Development Squad.

Mbete proved one of the pivotal figures as Brian Barry-Murphy’s side successfully defended our Premier League 2 title in impressive fashion with Luke going on to make 20 PL2 appearances in total last term.

His impressive progress at City was then rewarded with a three-year contract extension which he signed earlier this summer.

Luke will now continue to develop at Huddersfield and everyone at City wishes him the best of luck during his time in South Yorkshire.
