Luke Mbete has joined League One side Northampton Town on a season-long loan.

The versatile centre-half, who joined City as an Under-12, will link up with the Cobblers for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

After progressing through our Academy, he signed scholarship terms in July 2020 before moving into the Elite Development Squad for the 2020/21 campaign – helping our Under-21s to the Premier League 2 title.

He subsequently made his senior City debut in September 2021 in our 6-1 Carabao Cup win over Wycombe Wanderers.

Mbete then went on to play twice more for Pep Guardiola’s side that season – making outings in a 4-1 FA Cup victory at Swindon Town and a 0-0 draw with Sporting Lisbon in Champions League Round of 16 second leg.

The 20-year-old penned a contract extension at the Etihad Stadium in June 2022 and spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Huddersfield and the second half of the term with Bolton Wanderers.

Last season, he then enjoyed a temporary spell with Eerste Divisie side FC Den Bosch making 24 appearances for the Dutch outfit, scoring two goals and registering one assist in all competitions.

He was also a member of City’s squad who travelled to the United States of America for our pre-season tour before featuring in matches against Barcelona and Celtic.

Everyone at the Club wishes Luke well in his loan with Northampton.
