The 18-year-old has agreed a three-year extension, signing a new deal which keeps him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2027.
A commanding central defender, blessed with pace, power, supreme vision and awareness and an excellent passing game, he has gone from strength to strength since joining City at Under-12s level.
Mbete has subsequently progressed through the Academy ranks with huge distinction and was afforded his senior City debut last season.

Mbete also becomes the latest of our crop of exciting Academy graduates to commit his long-term future to the Club with Cole Palmer, Liam Delap, Finley Burns and James McAtee all penning new deals over the past 12 months.
And Mbete said he was thrilled to have secured his own new City contract.
“This is a very proud moment both for me and my family,” Mbete told mancity.com.
“I want to express my thanks to everyone at the Club for showing their faith in me.
“I have been fortunate to work under some amazing coaches throughout the Academy and to be also able to train under Pep Guardiola and the first team coaches is an incredible privilege.
“I feel I am learning and improving all the time and there couldn’t be a better Club to keep developing.

One of the talismen in our Elite Development Squad’s Premier League 2 title success in 2021/22, Mbete also further bolstered his experience by regularly training with the City first team throughout last term.
He made his debut last September, playing the full 90 minutes as City beat Wycombe Wanderers 6-1 at the Etihad in the Carabao Cup third round and went on to add a further two senior appearances to his name.
Mbete came on as a late substitute in January’s 4-1 FA Cup third round victory away at Swindon Town.
He then subsequently made his Champions League bow – again from the bench – in our goalless last 16 second leg draw with Sporting in March.
Alongside that senior experience, Mbete was a key figure as our EDS side retained the Premier League 2 title in impressive fashion under the guidance of head coach Brian Barry-Murphy, making 19 appearances.
