City outclassed United at the Etihad Stadium, where Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez both scored a brace apiece to help Pep Guardiola’s men comfortably claim three points and Goater believes the manner of the win was testament to the Catalan’s brilliance.

“For me, this is the best City performance in a Manchester derby by far,” he told mancity.com.

“We’ve had the 6-1 where we annihilated them and from my time the 3-1. But in terms of tactical nous and outplaying them, this one for me will be remembered as the best derby.

“We saw that Guardiola is an absolute genius.”

United had won on each of their previous three visits to the Etihad, but were match for City this time around.

The second half was a particularly one-sided affair, with Ederson rarely troubled and the hosts creating chance after chance.

Goater feels City took our game to new heights and declared the Premier League leaders tactically outstanding.

“When we beat them at Old Trafford 2-0, I thought that could be one of the best City performances,” he added.

“But this game, to a man, how they all interchanged and manoeuvred the ball to break the press and create great opportunities, it was absolutely superb and outstanding football.

“City took it to another level.

“When I look at United, I can’t look at them and say they played badly. Nobody comes to mind

“It was just a case of how well City played and moved that ball. Pogba playing up front was a genius move, because we couldn’t bully him. Tactically it was a good move.

“Once they took Pogba off and went for the quick players up front, it broke their momentum.

“Tactically, City got to grips with it and put on a masterclass and what a game - this should be remembered as the all-time derby and an absolutely fascinating game.”
