The hugely impressive triumph over the reigning champions was, of course, our first success at Anfield in 18 years.
But it was a result that also saw Pep Guardiola’s side chalk up a 10th successive Premier League triumph – an incredible run that stretches all the way back to December 19th when we secured a 1-0 win at Southampton.
Furthermore, it made it 14 victories across all competitions for Guardiola’s squad – another compelling measure of the quality and consistency overseen by the boss and his players.

In the course of that sequence, it’s also worth noting that we have conceded just four goals – again a glowing testament to the collective drive and desire running throughout the squad right now.
Overall, it’s now 21 games unbeaten - and five goals conceded in total - since our last defeat away to Spurs in November.
And that extraordinary quality and consistency has seen Pep’s squad not only open up a five point lead at the top of the Premier League with a game in hand, but also step up our quest for success in the Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup too.
City are through to a fourth successive Carabao Cup final in April where we will take on Spurs.
We have an FA Cup fifth round assignment away at Swansea to look forward to this Wednesday and later this month we tackle German side Borussia Monchengladbach in our Champions League last 16 first leg.
And if City needed any extra belief as the season rapidly approaches its business end, we can take heart from the manner and historical significance of today’s result.

Amazingly, Phil Foden – the star of Sunday’s spectacular show – was just two years of age when we last tasted success on the Red half of Merseyside.
And, prior to that, you had to go back to December, 1981 for our previous Anfield success.
Indeed, Liverpool’s stamping ground has historically proved the toughest of testing grounds with City tasting victory there just three times in 65 years.
Though we secured five wins on Merseyside in the league and FA Cup between 1945 and 1956 – that was followed by a 25-year wait before that ’81 success.
And today was the first time we had scored four times at the famous stadium since a 5-0 Division One thrashing in 1937.
