City moved to within two points of Premier League leaders Arsenal thanks to an electric 4-1 victory over the Londoners at the Etihad Stadium.

A sublime Kevin De Bruyne brace alongside John Stones‘ powerful header and Erling Haaland’s clinical finish secured the points as the title race enters its exhilarating final furlong.

12 IN A ROW

Wednesday night’s success represented our 12th successive league win over Arsenal – a streak stretching back to November 2017.

Across those victories, we have scored 33 goals and only conceded five times with 19 of them coming at home and 13 on the road.

Among them there have been some vital results, including our 2-1 win in north London in January 2022 when Rodrigo snatched an injury time winner en route to the 2021/22 Premier League crown.

GUNNERS GLEE

Following his impressive double against Mikel Arteta’s side, De Bruyne has scored more goals against the Gunners than any other side in the division with seven.

This is closely followed by his tally of five goals across league matches with Chelsea and Wolves and four against Southampton and Liverpool.

In the 14 Premier League matches against Arsenal, the Belgian ace has won 11 encounters, drawn two and lost only once.

His first goal against Arsenal came in a 2-2 draw in May 2016 when his 51st minute strike regained our lead at the Etihad before Alexis Sanchez levelled the scoreline.

De Bruyne’s goals against the Gunners have earned us 16 points in total.

RECORD HOLDING HAALAND

Following his late strike in the success, Haaland now holds the record for most goals scored in a 38-game Premier League season.

By firing home deep into added time, his league tally in 2022/23 now stands at 33 and also extends his lead in the Golden Boot race.

By doing so, he’s now transcended Mohamed Salah’s 32 goal haul in a 38-game season which came in 2017/18.

He’s now only two behind Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer’s record of 34 goals across an entire Premier League campaign (1993/94 and 1994/95 respectively) when a term was comprised of 42 matches.

HIGHEST SCORERS

With a quartet of goals added to our league tally for the term, City have extended our lead as the highest scoring team in the division with 82.

Heading into the meeting with Arsenal, the visitors had previously scored 77 times compared to our 78, but we have now scored four more times than the league leaders.

Pep Guardiola’s side have scored six times on two occasions in a 6-3 win over Manchester United and a 6-0 triumph over Nottingham Forest – both coming at home.

And across our past four league assignments we have scored 15 goals across the 360 minutes of Premier League action.
