After helping City win a fourth successive Premier League title and led Spain to Euro 2024 glory, our midfielder became the first Manchester City player to be named the Men’s Ballon d’Or victor.
But before he lifted the eye-catching award, the festivities began with Ruben Dias, Savinho and Rodrigo getting suited and booted for a special night in Paris.
Then it was off to the red carpet at the Theatre du Chatelet before taking their seats inside the venue.
The first trophy of the night went to Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal who was awarded the Kopa Trophy, making him the youngest ever player to receive the award. City’s Savinho placed fourth after a stand-out loan season with Girona.
Barcelona Women won the Women’s Club of the Year in the second trophy of the evening with Real Madrid announced as the Men’s Club of the Year after both clubs won the Champions League and respective league titles.
Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe completed the 2023/24 season with 52 goals and in turn both were named winners of the Gerd Muller trophy.
For a second successive year, Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez received the Yashin Trophy and Jenni Hermoso lifted the Socrates Award.
Former Chelsea Women boss, now leading the USWNT, Emma Hayes was awarded the newly-named Women’s Johan Cruyff Trophy and Carlo Ancelotti received the Men’s John Cruyff Trophy.
For City in the Ballon d’Or runnings, Lauren Hemp placed 28th, Yui Hasegawa 26th and Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw named 15th in the Women’s award. Aitana Bonmati received the prestigious gold football for a second successive year.
In the men’s standings, Ruben Dias finished 23rd, Phil Foden 11th and Erling Haaland 5th before Rodrigo was named the best player in the world and took home the Men’s Ballon d’Or.
