Sergio Aguero’s period of self-isolation has ended but he will miss Manchester City’s game against Burnley on Wednesday evening.

City have been without the striker for a month, who initially isolated after coming into contact with someone who had tested positive for COVID-19, before then contracting the virus himself.

Aguero is now back at the City Football Academy after returning a negative test, but he is yet to resume training and Pep Guardiola say he is weeks away from being ready to play.

The manager also confirmed Nathan Ake is unavailable for the trip to Turf Moor as he continues to be sidelined by the injury which has kept him out of our last nine matches.

“Everyone is fine except Nathan and Sergio needs time,” said the City boss at his pre-match press conference.

“When one guy suffers COVID he needs weeks to feel better or ready.

“He is still not training on the field. He started moving yesterday. He will need a few weeks to come back.

“The important thing is he is negative, he is healthy again now, he can come back.

“Of course, is important to have him back.”

Guardiola reported no fresh injury concerns following the 1-0 win over Sheffield United at the weekend, which means Kevin De Bruyne will be the only other absentee at Burnley.

City travel to Lancashire in fine form having won 12 games in a row in all competitions and we also boast an impressive recent record against the Clarets.

Guardiola has never lost against Sean Dyche’s side, winning 11 of his 12 meetings, though the Spaniard says past results are irrelevant and is preparing for a tough test at Turf Moor.

“Always I think when playing Burnley, especially away, is that it will never be easy,” he added.

“They have played together for Sean Dyche for a long time and they know what to do really well.

“The past is nothing. Every team is a new chance, a new challenge, to do a good game.

“I pay zero attention to what happened in the past. It is about tomorrow, what we have to do to beat them. That is only my concern.”
