Looking back at events - good or otherwise - that happened on this day in our history...

May 11

1968: A momentous day as City claim the Division One title on the last day of the season.

With Manchester United the only team in with a genuine chance of stopping City – and playing at home to Sunderland – the Blues weren’t the bookies favourites with a daunting trip to Newcastle United ahead of them.

The TV cameras concentrated on events at Old Trafford but City secured a memorable 4-3 win at St James’ Park to claim our first league title since 1937 – much to the delight of our traveling army of 20,000 plus fans.

2003: A day full of emotion as City play our last ever game at Maine Road before moving to the City of Manchester Stadium.

A sell-out crowd watches Shaun Goater – playing his final game for the Club - skipper the team, but City fall flat on the day and lose 1-0 to Southampton.

Not a fitting way to bade farewell to the ground City had called home for 80 years.

2013: City fall to a surprise FA Cup final defeat to Wigan as Ben Watson’s last-minute goal wins the trophy for the Latics.

Roberto Mancini’s side were the firm pre-match favourites but it instead proves an afternoon to forget at Wembley, with Pablo Zabaleta also being sent off six minutes from time.

2014: City secured our second Premier League title in three seasons after goals from Samir Nasri and captain Vincent Kompany saw us stroll to a 2-0 victory over West Ham.

CITYZENS AT HOME

Manuel Pellegrini’s side knew a point would confirm we had regained the crown - but goals either side of the interval from Nasri and Kompany ensured the formalities were completed with barely an anxious moment in front an ecstatic packed house at Etihad Stadium.

Liverpool’s home defeat to Chelsea and the late collapse at Crystal Palace opened the door for City and we took advantage ruthlessly by winning their last five games.
