City beat Belgian side SK Lierse 5-0 in the European Cup Winners’ Cup – our biggest win in European competition.
Franny Lee and Colin Bell bag a brace each with Mike Summerbee netting the opener.
The 8-0 aggregate score would remain the Club’s best European win until we smashed the record in our 2018/19 Champions League campaign, beating Schalke 10-2 over two legs in the Round of 16 (3-2 and 7-0).
City would go on to lift the European Cup Winners’ Cup trophy, defeating Górnik Zabrze in the Final - a little more than 50 years ago!

Inspired by Dennis Tueart, City turn in an irresistible performance to storm to a comprehensive 6-2 victory over Chelsea.
Graham Wilkins puts through his own goal on nine minutes before Tueart makes it 2-0 just four minutes later.
Wilkins then scores in the correct net to reduce arrears and the visitors draw level from the penalty spot through Ian Britton.
City restore the lead within four minutes through Tueart, who nets his second of the afternoon to make it 3-2.
A deflected Paul Power strike on half-time and second half Peter Barnes effort extend the lead beyond Chelsea’s reach and the visitors’ afternoon worsened when Wilkins was sent off.
A perfect day was capped, as Tueart completes his hat-trick to finish the rout!

Garry Flitcroft and Uwe Rosler are on the scoresheet as City defeat Wimbledon 2-0 at Maine Road.
The hosts break the deadlock after just seven minutes through Flitcroft and Rosler makes sure of the points with two minutes of normal time remaining.
2005
City suffer a disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Liverpool, as the Reds leapfrog Stuart Pearce’s side in the Premier League table.
John Arne Riise’s strike just past the hour is enough for the Merseysiders to take all three points on a forgettable day for the hosts.
2016
Sergio Aguero scores twice as City recover from an early blow to beat Burnley 2-1 at Turf Moor.
Dean Marney gives the Clarets the lead, volleying into the bottom corner from 25 yards, but Kun pegs the home side back before half-time.
Aguero then nets the winner, although he doesn’t know too much about it, as Fernandinho‘s cross hits the Argentine and rolls in to clinch victory, continuing City’s fine form on the road.
2017
A year on from the comeback at Burnley, City fight back from a goal down once again to secure a 2-1 win over Huddersfield in a blood and thunder War of the Roses.
Remarkably, the victory marks the first time in 22 years that we recover from a half-time deficit in the Premier League, and also equals a club record (set in 2015) of 11 successive wins in the competition,
An own goal by Nicolas Otamendi just before half-time gives the hosts the advantage but a penalty from Aguero just after the re-start and yet a dramatic late winner from Raheem Sterling secures another record-breaking triumph.
Tempers flare at full-time with Terriers forward Rajiv van la Parra sent off.
With 37 points from our 13 matches, City register the best-ever points total at that stage of a Premier League campaign.
2019
Despite a 1-1 draw against Shakhtar Donetsk, City qualify for the 2019/20 Champions League Round of 16, courtesy of Atalanta’s 2-0 win against Dinamo Zagreb.
Ilkay Gundogan opens the scoring just before the hour mark at the Etihad Stadium but the lead only lasts for ten minutes, as Manor Solomon levels for the Ukrainian outfit.
City are far from our sparkling best against a well-organised Shakhtar side but the hard work had been done in the earlier games with the hosts comfortably clear at the top of Group C.
