Thanks to our monumental maiden Champions League triumph last season, which also completed the Treble, we will compete in the prestigious showpiece against the Europa League holders on Wednesday 16 August (kick-off scheduled for 20:00 UK).
UEFA SUPER CUP | CITY V SEVILLA
Pep Guardiola’s side have impressively won on all four of the occasions we’ve faced Los Nervionenses, with every victory arriving in the Champions League group stages.
Across the quartet of successes, we’ve scored 12 goals and conceded just three across 360 minutes of action.
Here, we recall those victories…
City 2-1 Sevilla - October 21 2015
Kevin De Bruyne scored a euphoric stoppage time winner as we fought back from a goal down to record an impressive 2-1 victory in the first competitive meeting between the sides.
After an evenly contested opening exchange, Sevilla broke the deadlock on 30 minutes when Vitolo’s inviting cross was turned into the net by Yehven Konoplyanka.
Although Unai Emery’s then side immediately pushed for their second of the night, their lead didn’t last long, as Wilfried Bony’s effort from close range found its way past Sergio Rico via a deflection off Adil Rami.
In a match that ebbed and flowed, City snatched the victory when Yaya Toure sparked a trademark, direct run into the final third before teeing up the De Bruyne who cut onto his right foot and fired home.
Sevilla 1-3 City – November 3 2015
Manuel Pellegrini’s side secured our place in the knockout stages of the Champions League with an electric attacking display at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium – running out 3-1 winners.
In an enthralling encounter, four goals were scored in the opening 36 minutes as Raheem Sterling (eighth) and Fernandinho (11th) handed us a commanding lead in Spain.
The lead, however, was halved 14 minutes later when Benoit Tremoulinas ghosted into the box and direct a precise header into the net.
But our two-goal lead was restored before the interval when Bony swept his sixth goal for the Club home.
Sevilla 0-4 City – September 6 2022
Erling Haaland bagged a brace with Phil Foden and Ruben Dias also on target as we began our iconic 2022/23 Champions League campaign with an emphatic 4-0 win at Sevilla.
The Norwegian front man opened the scoring with a fabulous volley in the 20th minute before the England international doubled our advantage with a fine finish just before the hour.
Haaland then grabbed his second of the evening on 66 minutes when he reacted quickly inside the box to latch onto a rebound and fire home.
Guardiola’s team weren’t finished there, as Ruben Dias moved forward from defence to tap home from close range which rounded off a wonderful night in Europe.
City 3-1 Sevilla – November 2 2022
Rico Lewis scored his first goal for the Club and ignited a strong comeback as we maintained our unbeaten group stage run with a 3-1 home victory.
Sevilla striker Rafa Mir broke the deadlock in the first half and the Spanish side held their narrow lead into the interval before Guardiola’s team turned the game around in the second half.
That was sparked by Academy graduate Lewis’ strike which saw him become the youngest player in Champions League history to score on his first start in the competition.
Further goals from Julian Alvarez and Riyad Mahrez secured the three points at the Etihad.
