Liam Delap says it will be a while before he stops smiling after his goal-scoring debut against Bournemouth.

The 17 year-old marked his first start with a superb strike on 18 minutes to put City ahead.

The physically-strong teenager was a thorn in the Cherries’ side all evening as City edged a 2-1 win.

“To get the call up I couldn’t be happier,” said Delap.

“It has been a dream come true. Since I was a young boy I’ve been dreaming of this and to get the win and a goal I can’t ask for much more

“I heard that I was going to play this morning. The boss announced the team and I heard I was in and I was so happy.”

Talking through his sumptuous top right-hand corner finish, he said: “I saw the ball coming and decided to take it first time.

“I’ve done it in training which has helped me and to finish like that I was buzzing. I saw the keeper coming off his line and I thought I would guide it in the corner.

“I like to be aggressive and to give defenders a tough game for 90 minutes. That’s just part of me - the aggression and physicality

“I need to keep working hard in training and look to take every opportunity I get.

“It will take a few weeks to stop smiling!”
