Manchester City’s League Cup campaign begins with a trip to St James’ Park on Wednesday 27 September as we face Newcastle United at 20:00 (UK).
The tie will represent the second time we’ve faced the Magpies this season after our fine 1-0 Premier League win over Eddie Howe’s side at the Etihad Stadium in August.
On that occasion, Julian Alvarez’s first-half piledriver was the difference as we continued our 100% start to the new season and the defence of our league crown.
Pep Guardiola’s side enter the cup clash in tremendous form having recorded a hard-fought 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest at home last time out.
Goals from Phil Foden and Erling Haaland gave the hosts a commanding lead, but we had to dig deep in the second half following Rodrigo’s red card.
And our action-packed schedule shows no sign of slowing down with a difficult test on Tyneside coming up.
As a result, we were back on the training field at the City Football Academy to continue our preparations for Newcastle.
