In a combustible affair at the Etihad Stadium, the Algerian lit the blue touch paper just after the ten-minute mark when he followed up on Kevin De Bruyne’s deflected effort to tap home after a devastating counter.
And in a mirror image of the opening goal, the Algerian made it two just after the hour, smashing home Phil Foden’s square ball high into the net as PSG committed bodies forward.
Things then went from bad to worse for the visitors five minutes later, when Angel Di Maria was shown a straight red for kicking out at City skipper Fernandinho.
It hadn’t all be smooth sailing for Pep Guardiola’s men though, who were thankful when VAR overturned Bjorn Kuipers’ decision to point to the spot after the ball had struck Oleksandr Zinchenko on the shoulder.
Marquinhos, who had opened the scoring in our 2-1 first leg victory in Paris, also went close when he rose highest to crash a header against the bar.
But in the pouring rain, City weathered the storm and deservedly booked our place in Istanbul’s European showpiece at the end of May.
