Pep Guardiola’s side join the competition at the third round stage, but updates have been made to the historic tournament.
Our last League Cup triumph came in 2021 thanks to a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur - and we’ll be aiming to win the trophy for the ninth time in our illustrious history this term.
Due to UEFA Champions League changes, including an extended league stage, Round Three of the Carabao Cup will take place over two midweeks.
It also means clubs participating in European football’s premier competition can’t be drawn against Europa League competing teams in the third round of the League Cup.
As a result, we will avoid Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, meanwhile, the 25 teams progressing from Round Two and Chelsea – who are in the UEFA Conference League – are not affected at this stage.
Therefore, Champions League and Europa League clubs will be placed in bowl one and drawn against one of the remaining 26 teams in bowl two.
And a pre-draw will take place ahead of Nottingham Forest v Newcastle on Wednesday 28 August to determine the home or away position of clubs in bowl one.
The main draw will then take place on Sky Sports Football after the clash between Nuno Espirito Santo and Eddie Howe’s sides has concluded. Kick-off at the City Ground is scheduled for 20:00 (UK).
Round Three of the Carabao Cup will be played across the weeks commencing 16 and 23 September.
